Non-Wiener effects in recursive least squares adaptation

چکیده
In a number of adaptive filtering applications, non-Wiener effects have been observed for the (normalized) leastmean-square algorithm. These effects can lead to performance improvements over the fixed Wiener filter with the same model structure, and are characterized by dynamic behavior of the adaptive filter weights. Here we investigate whether such non-Wiener effects can also occur in the recursive least squares algorithm, and under which circumstances. Examples show that non-Wiener effects can also occur with the recursive least squares algorithm, in particular when the exponential forgetting factor is small. The latter corresponds to a short memory depth, the need for which one generally associates with tracking of time-varying phenomena.

On Recursive parametric Identification of Wiener Systems
The aim of the given paper is the development of a recursive approach for parametric identification of Wiener systems with non-invertible piecewise linear function inr the nonlinear block. It is shown here that the problem of parametric identification of a Wiener system could be reduced to a linear parametric estimation problem by a simple input-output data reordering and by a following data pa...
متن کاملSquare-Root Algorithms of Recursive Least-Squares Wiener Estimators in Linear Discrete-Time Stochastic Systems
This paper addresses the QR decomposition and UD factorization based square-root algorithms of the recursive least-squares (RLS) Wiener fixed-point smoother and filter. In the RLS Wiener estimators, the Riccati-type difference equations for the auto-variance function of the filtering estimate are included. Hence, by the roundoff errors, in the case of the small value of the observation noise va...

This paper designs the recursive least-squares (RLS) Wiener finite impulse response (FIR) predictor and filter, based on the innovation approach, in linear discrete-time stochastic systems. It is assumed that the signal is observed with additive white noise and the signal process is uncorrelated with the observation noise process. This paper also presents the recursive algorithms for the estima...
متن کاملDesign of RLS Wiener Smoother and Filter for Colored Observation Noise in Linear Discrete-Time Stochastic Systems
Almost estimators are designed for the white observation noise. In the estimation problems, rather than the white observation noise, there might be actual cases where the observation noise is modeled by the colored noise process. This paper examines to design a new estimation technique of recursive least-squares (RLS) Wiener fixed-point smoother and filter for colored observation noise in linea...
متن کاملBlock-oriented identification of Hammerstein/Wiener-models using the RLS-algorithm
A new method for identifying Hammerstein/Wiener models is proposed, where the parameters of a piecewise linear characteristic and a linear transfer function are estimated by recursive least-squares (RLS). Using smooth validity functions and an adaptive algorithm for optimal partitioning of the local linear models an efficient and accurate model can be identified.
